Mal Kelapa Gading

Mal Kelapa Gading (MKG) is a large mall in Kelapa Gading area in North Jakarta.

The mall actually consists of 5 adjacent malls, known as MKG1/2/3/4/5. It's a "mid-range" mall (cheaper than Plaza Indonesia, more expensive than Mangga Dua) and it's usually very crowded during weekend, but quiet during weekdays.

Shopping:
  • Supermarket: Farmers Market
  • Department stores: Star, Sogo
  • Several Food courts
  • Barbershops & Beauty salons
  • Century and Guardian Pharmacies
  • Sports shops
  • Batik Keris
  • Travel agencies
  • ...Much more! (click here for the complete directory of MKG)

La Piazza:
Outdoor restaurants and cafes (mainly western food), live music at night

Gading Food City:
Small outdoor restaurants (cheaper than La Piazza), lots of Indonesian food, live music at night

Tips:
  1. Try 'Swikee' (frog) in the food court in front of Farmers Market (MKG 1)
  2. Try Nasi Goreng from Sari 21 in Gading Food City (next to La Piazza)
  3. Try Japanese Teppanyaki from Okirobox (MKG 3, close to the food court)

Barbershops / Hair Salons in Jakarta: Hadisuwarno Salon

Hadisuwarno Salon Mall Kelapa Gading 3

Gunting (hair cut) for man: 100.000 rupiah
Hair wash with Kerastase shampoo: 25.000 rupiah

Hadisuwarno is a relatively expensive hairsalon. You can also have a haircut for 20.000 rupiah (for example at 'My Salon' barbershop), but the good thing about barbershops like Hadisuwarno is that the barbershop is clean and the personnel is nice and professional.

Additionally, they also sell good quality anti-hair loss products.

Kelapa Gading 'Creating Food Adventure': Buah Potong Campur

Creating Food Adventure is a unique food court at Mall Kelapa Gading 5 (3rd floor) with lots of local food and plenty of traditional Indonesian decorations, like an old 'Gerobak' (food sellers' cart), traditional food utensils and a kretek cigarette box collection.

I already had lunch before, so I only bought 'buah potong campur' (mixed fruit slices: buah = fruit, potong = pieces/slices, campur = mixed): a box full of melon, water melon and papaya.
