Getting your visa for Indonesia - VOA & SosBud

Tourists can enter Indonesia with VOA, visa-on-arrival. You don't have to apply for this visa in your home country, just go to the immigration office at the airport, fill out some form, pay something like 20 US Dollar and you can stay in Indonesia for 30 days and could be extended for another 30 days. You can find info on http://visa4indonesia.nl/types-of-visa/visa-on-arrival/ http://www.expat.or.id/info/docs.html#VOA Tip: check the expiry date of your passport BEFORE you buy your ticket, because it should be valid for at least 6 months (from the date of entry into Indonesia). If you want to stay for more than 60 days, for example to visit friends or family, you can apply for a visit visa (other names for this visa: socio-cultural visa, SosBud, Sosial Budaya). I did this and want to share my experience with how to get SosBud and how to get the extensions. Step 1: Apply for the social visit visa in your home country You'll need a 'sponsor', for example an Indonesian family member or friend. Blah blah The visa is valid for 60 days in the first place. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for extension. You'd better do this 1 week before expiry, because the application at immigration office will take some time... Step 1: ... ... With the social visa, you're not allowed to work, but I know people who did internship while having social visa. i had business visa for my internship, but extension requires a trip out of the country (I went to singapore) within 60 days while the sosbud can be extended in Indonesia Soon I will write about my experience with getting my ITAS/KITAS, when I have it.
